Commitment

It takes commitment to get married at City Hall.

Then again, nothing worthwhile comes easy. After finding each other in a world that does not make finding a soulmate easy, couples come from near and far to tie the knot in New York City. Undeterred by bureaucratic delays or long lines, couples patiently wait to fulfill their share promise to build a life together.

More often than not, the ritual of getting married at City Hall begins with one committed party waiting for the other to arrive in order to start the paperwork due to the State’s requirement for all parties to be present during the application process. Once the paperwork has been completed, couples must wait for their marriage license, wait for the chapel ceremony, and then wait for a space in which to take pictures either before, during or after the ceremony. If the computer system goes down, the wait becomes longer, the timing more uncertain.

Waiting can be the best part of getting married at City Hall as it is during these periods of ‘down time’ that treasured memories are made. Couples spend the time holding hands, calming nerves, making jokes or sharing a bite to eat. Family and friends take pictures and exchange stories in celebration of the couple. Before you know it, your number is called, the ceremony performed, and suddenly, the couple’s status of “betrothed” is changed to “married".

It’s always wonderful when a plan comes together.
